Respiratory care therapists assist the physician in diagnosing and treating patients with respiratory and cardio-pulmonary issues. They act to maintain, restore, and assist the respiratory functions of patients in emergency situations.

- Assess the patient's capacity to undergo a procedure
- Use, supervise and maintain various diagnostic equipment
- Advise other health professionals when working as a team
- Ensure the patient’s breathing during medical interventions
- Write medical prescriptions for patients
- Prepare and assist during the transportation of high-risk patients
