Professional training

A process aimed at learning a skilled trade in the construction, manufacturing, motive power and service sectors. Apprenticeship programs include classroom training and the acquisition of practical on-the-job experience under the supervision of an experienced worker. Apprentices are employees who receive remuneration during their training.

Bachelor degree

Official document issued by a university attesting that the student has successfully completed a program of study in a general discipline such as the arts, sciences, engineering or administration.

Master degree

A degree which follows the completion of a bachelor’s degree (undergraduate degree) and which focuses on intensive study of a particular field, for example, English literature, history or physics. A master’s degree generally requires one or two years of study after obtaining an honors degree.

Doctor degree

The highest university degree that typically requires a minimum of three years of study and research, including writing a thesis, after obtaining a master’s degree. The doctoral degree is usually awarded under the designation Ph. D.
